Bush's War Plan

When (if) you watch President Bush's television address tonight on his plans for Iraq, keep the below quotes in mind...

“It became clear that if we were prepared to stay the course, we could help to lay the cornerstone for a diverse and independent [region]. If we faltered, the forces of chaos would smell victory and decades of strife and aggression would stretch endlessly before us. The choice was clear. We would stay the course. And we shall stay the course.”

“The big problem is to get territory and to keep it. You can get it today and it will be gone next week. That is the problem. You have to have enough people to clear it and enough people to preserve what you have done.”

While both of these quotes sound recent, they both came from President Lyndon Johnson, forty years ago as he ordered a hundred thousand more American soldiers to Vietnam. And we all know how Vietnam ended up.

Yes, there are differences between Iraq and Vietnam, but there are also many similiarities. Bush's plan for Iraq is clearly a failure, and throwing more wood into the fire will not make it burn out. It is time for a new strategy - not more of the same!

Since this blog like statistics, I thought I'd share...

There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

have a nice day!
