As I suspected...

Today, George Bush appointed homeland security advisor Fran Townsend to head up the White House's investigation of the federal response to Hurricane Katrina. Three things bother me about this...

1) she is a self-proclaimed "lifelong Republican"

2) she is a deputy national security advisor, reporting to President Bush and working with the Department of Homeland Security and Michael Chertoff on a regular basis, and is now supposed to objectively investigate that very department and its leaders

3) she owes the current direction of her career path directly to Mr. Bush - prior to his appointing her as deputy advisor, she was slowly being forced out of the Justice Department for incompetence

This is exactly why an independent, bipartisan committee was put together to investigate events surrounding September 11. It is imperative, for the security of our nation and safety of our citizens, that we find out exactly what went wrong four weeks ago - without the interruption of allegiances, loyalties, and general partisan politics.

But yet, here we go!
